Welcome!
My story: I hold a PhD in English Literature; I originally got interested in technology while working on Victorian detective fiction and researching historical ways of processing and managing information.
I’ve got a really cool job: I foster digital pedagogy at Bryn Mawr College through the Blended Learning in the Liberal Arts initiative and other projects.
As a humanist working in a tech-oriented field, it’s been particularly exciting to serve as the coordinator of Bryn Mawr’s Digital Competencies Initiative, a program that seeks to help students identify, build, and articulate their digital skills and critical perspectives on technology.
I also lead workshops, write a lot, maintain the Philly Digital Scholarship and Pedagogy calendar, help organize the annual Blended Learning in the Liberal Arts Conference, and support a range digital scholarship and pedagogy projects.
In addition to digital stuff, I’ve become really interested in the question of career training, particularly for humanities PhDs. I was of the members of the first Connected Academics cohort, a program from the Modern Language Association aiming to empower humanities PhDs in a broad range of careers. I’ve remained pretty involved in the MLA, and I am currently serving as a Northeast Region Delegate Assembly Representative and as a member of the Committee on Information Technology for the Modern Language Association.
